I'm sure most of you who have been following my art are going (wow, this is different from his usual affair). I've begun studying layouts and backgrounds as well as reviewing the principles of different perspectives in a new layout course I'm currently taking. This also includes using different line weights and shading techniques to emphasize focal point. This is the first piece I've made with the techniques I've learned on the DraZtic webpage. It should be noted that yes, we could only use blue pencil and that this piece was made for a pretend animation. The pretend animation is of two characters having a converation. Therefore the background could not overpower the animation. Which is why the focal point, the lamp and the area lit up by the lamp, is the strongest point in this piece and where your eye is supposed to focus. So you can't think of this piece as a piece in it's own right, but a part of a bigger piece which would be the animation this piece would go to. To do this piece I went to different locations where I live and used different buildings and props for examples. Many of the props in this piece were added to point back to the lamp post and lead your eyes back to the focal point so your eyes won't focus on anything else. You may notice that under medium I list photoshop. I did NOT use photoshop to make this piece (that should be obvious but you never know). This piece was hand drawn and the only mediums I used to make thise piece were Blue Pencil and Blue Pastel Chalk. I list Photoshop as a medium because I used Photoshop to crop the piece to viewable size, as well as "fix" the piece. When I scanned this piece in, this piece was too big for my scanner, so I scanned it in two parts and joined them together in Photoshop. I had to use Photoshop tools to blend a "line" that was created from scanning the piece in two sections and make it look like the piece did originally. Other than that, this piece was completely done by hand. |
