A model sheet for the DraZtic webpage. Haven't seen one of these from me in a while. This is a model sheet that I did for the same course as this piece. The assignment required that I draw a character in several poses and that the character be easy to animate. In other words, not heavily detailed with all sorts of facial features and unneeded extras that would be painful for an animator to draw. Also I had to draw this picture using only pencils and I could not clean it up. When I say clean up I mean getting rid of the shapes/lines/curves I used to get the form down. This was done using blue pencil. You can probably see in blue pencil the characters legs and some lines I used to establish where the arms/head/eyes were and etc... I used the red pencil to make out the true shape/form of the character, since it was darker than the blue pencil I was using. And then I followed the red line with normal pencil to define where the outline was. Like my "Blue Layout 1" piece, I drew this completely by hand.

The reason I list Photoshop as a medium is because like "Blue Layout 1", I had to scan this piece in two parts and combine them in photoshop, as well as scale it down so it could be viewed on the web. But I also had to do one other thing. My professor placed comments and grading information all over this piece. I used Photoshop to remove those comments. In case you are wondering, my teacher commented on the fact that my character had too many wrinkles in his shirt and that would be hard to animate. If you look at the third drawing (back turned view of Pirate DraZtic) you can probably see where I erased lines my teacher drew circling the wrinkles. Those wrinkles got my grade dropped to a B+. But my professor allows us to try again at assignments, so I'll be turning in another model sheet soon to correct this error. And you can be sure to see that model sheet here on the site as well.
